LORMAN, Miss. – Destiny Brown and
Nakia Cheatham used their Wonder Twin powers and lifted Alcorn State University women's basketball to victory in the Davey L. Whitney Complex on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Braves (14-11, 5-7 SWAC) defeated the Bethune-Cookman University Wildcats, 51-44.
ASU outworked B-CU in points off turnovers, 21-11, and in the paint, 24-14. Alcorn also came away with nine second chance points compared to Bethune-Cookman's two.
Brown racked up a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds while dishing out four assists and snatching two steals. Cheatham's double-double consisted of 14 points and 11 rebounds.
As a team, Alcorn State was 40.5 percent from the field and 58.3 percent from the free throw line.
B-CU (6-17, 4-8 SWAC) was led by D'Shantae Edwards with eight points and one rebound. She was followed by Karianna Woods with six points and four rebounds. Kayla Woods was the rebound leader with 11 rebounds and grabbed three steals.
The Wildcats were 21.3 percent from the field and 57.6 percent from the line.
Alcorn State will be back in action on Monday, Feb. 19 at the Whitney Complex as they welcome Florida A&M University. Tip off is set for 5:30 p.m.
