LORMAN, Miss. – Alcorn State University men's basketball fought hard but couldn't overcome the lockdown defense for Grambling State University on Monday night in the Davey L. Whitney Complex. The Braves dropped the contest, 67-78.
Alcorn was outscored in the paint, 36-32, and Grambling's bench put up 22 points compared to ASU's 15.
Jeremiah Kendall was the top scorer for the Braves with 21 points and five rebounds. He was followed by
Jalen Hawkins with 13 points and
Stephen Byard with 12 points and a team-high six rebounds.
Jeremiah Gambrell rounded out the bunch with 10 points.
Collectively, the team went 49 percent from the field and 84.2 percent from the line.
The Tigers were led by Jourdan Smith with a double-double of 19 points and 12 rebounds. He was followed by Terrence Lewis with 18 points and Tra'Michael Moton with 15 points, six rebounds, and four assists. Kintavious Dozier recorded 15 points.
Grambling went 50.9 percent from the field and 81.3 percent from the free throw line.
Alcorn returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 10 against the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Tip off is set for 2:35 p.m. in Pine Bluff, Ark.
