Lady Braves Defeat Grambling, Advance to SWAC Championship

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The Lady Braves edged past the #2 Grambling State University Lady Tigers 61-59 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference women's basketball semifinals, to advance to the championship game, where they will face their in-state rival, Jackson State University.

    Destiny Brown played a pivotal role in the Lady Braves' success, finishing with 19-points, seven rebounds, four blocks and four steals. However, it was a team effort as Zy'nyia White and Nakia Cheatham tallied 12 and 11 points, respectively. White also contributed seven rebounds, while Cheatham pulled down eight.

    The Lady Braves finished 63.6 percent from the charity stripe and 35.6 percent from the floor.

    GSU was led by Kahia Warmsley, who recorded 20 points, six rebounds and two steals. The Lady Tigers finished 37.5 percent from the field and 61.1 percent from the free-throw line.

    Alcorn and Jackson State will face-off, Saturday, March 16th at 4:30 pm.
