Cheatham Named BOXTOROW All-American

Nakia Cheatham earns another postseason award

RALEIGH, N.C. – Alcorn Women's Basketball student-athlete Nakia Cheatham has been named to the 2025-26 BOXTOROW Women's Basketball All-America First Team, announced Thursday from the home office in Raleigh, North Carolina.
 
Nakia Cheatham, a 6-foot graduate student from Clarksdale, Mississippi, is earning her first-ever BOXTOROW postseason award after also being named 2025-26 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Defensive Player of the Year.
 
The Coahoma CC alum finished the regular season with eight double-doubles, adding one in the SWAC Women's Basketball Tournament. She is currently third in the SWAC in scoring with 395 points (13.2 ppg), while sitting tied for second in the league in rebounds with 228 (7.6 rpg).
 
Cheatham is atop the SWAC in steals (71) and sits eighth in blocked shots (31).
 
For the Braves, she is connecting on 42.8 percent of her shots from the field, adding a 28.3 percent touch from three-point range. She has also handed out 58 assists from her forward position on the court.
 
In her last outing versus Arkansas-Pine Bluff in the SWAC Tournament, Cheatham scored 18 points and hauled down 11 rebounds for her ninth double-double of the campaign.
 
Howard's Zennia Thomas was named BOXTOROW Player of the Year, along with her head coach Ty Grace being named Coach of the Year. Impact Player of the Year accolades went to Jasha Clinton of Norfolk State.
 
BOXTOROW has released the Women's All-America teams since the 2011-12 season.  Players from 12 different schools were represented.

Alcorn hosts South Alabama in the opening round of the Women's National Invitational Tournament (WNIT) on Saturday, March 21, at 3 p.m., in Lorman, Mississippi.
