PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – Alcorn State University women's basketball (8-18, 6-9 SWAC) pulled out a win over Prairie View A&M University on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Braves defeated PVAMU, 55-53, by outscoring and rebounding their opponent in the second and fourth quarter.
Zy'Nyia White exploded in the contest after being quiet for the last three contest. White racked up a double-double of 17 points and 12 rebounds. She was followed by
Nakia Cheatham with 17 points and eight rebounds.
Destiny Brown rounded out the top scorers with 12 points, nine rebounds, and three blocks.
As a team, Alcorn shot 34.7 percent from the field and 73.1 percent from the line.
Prairie View A&M (11-15, 7-9 SWAC) was led by Amauri Williams with 11 points and four rebounds. She was followed by Gerlyn Smith with nine points, seven rebounds, and two assists. Jada Roberson recorded nine points and two assists.
The Lady Panthers shot 36.2 percent from the field and 61.5 percent from the free throw line.
ASU will be back in action on Monday, March 4 as they play Texas Southern University. Tip off is set for 5:30 p.m.
