HOUSTON, Texas – Destiny Brown and Alcorn State University women's basketball (8-19, 6-10 SWAC) took the court against Texas Southern on Monday night in H&PE Arena. The Lady Braves fell to eighth in the Southwestern Athletic Conference after the loss to the Lady Tigers, 63-71.
Brown led the way for Alcorn with 23 points, eight rebounds, five assists, four blocks, and two steals. She was followed by
Nakia Cheatham with a double-double of 14 points and 12 rebounds, one block and one steal. Zy'Nyia White contributed 10 points, four rebounds, one assist and a steal.
The team was 40.7 percent from the field and 81.3 percent from free throw line. ASU patrolled the paint to the tune of 40 points compared to Texas Southern's 26.
The Lady Tigers (6-22, 5-12 SWAC) were led by Jaida Belton and Nya Harmon with 12 points each. Belton led the team in rebounds with nine. Taniya Lawson and Daeja Holmes contributed 11 points apiece. Holmes also tallied six rebounds, four assists, and four steals. Maci Quiller recorded seven rebounds.
Texas Southern went 38.1 percent from the field and 75 percent from the free throw line.
The Lady Braves will be back in action on Thursday, March 7 in the Davey L. Whitney Complex against Mississippi Valley State University. Tip off is set for 5:30 p.m.
