LORMAN, Miss. – Alcorn State University women's basketball (9-19, 7-10 SWAC) took the court against Mississippi Valley State University in a Thursday night match up. The Lady Braves defeated MVSU, 63-48, with a dose of solid defense and trusting each other.
Destiny Brown led the team with 20 points, five rebounds, two assists, two steals, and a block. She was followed by
Nakia Cheatham with 16 points, seven rebounds, three assists, three steals, and three blocks.
Nia McCalphia accounted for six assists while
Kiarra Henderson pulled down six boards.
ASU went 45.3 percent from the field and 56.3 percent from the free throw line.
The Delta Devilletes (4-26, 3-14 SWAC) were led by Jaylia Reed with 15 points, five rebounds, and three steals. Sh'Diamond McKnight contributed 13 points and two rebounds.
MVSU went 34.7 percent from the field and 63.6 percent from the stripe.
The Lady Braves will host the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff for Senior Night in the Davey L. Whitney Complex on Saturday, March 9. Tip off is set for 1 p.m.
