Alcorn Goes 0-3 Against Grambling

GRAMBLING, La. – Head Coach Reggie Williams and the Alcorn State University Braves baseball team took on Grambling State University in a three-game series over this weekend. ASU played hard but was defeated in all three games, 2-18, 1-11, and 8-9.

Game One
Alcorn scored two runs on seven hits while committing an error. Trey Adams had a hit and an RBI. Dillon Crowell finished with a hit and a run batted in.

GSU scored 18 runs on 15 hits with no errors. Tiger Borom finished the day with three hits, two runs and four batted in. Jaylyn Bennett had two hits, a run, and three runs batted in. Chris Marcellus ended the game with three hits (a home run), two runs, and two RBI. Ashton Inman had a hit, two runs, and two runs batted in. Kyle Walker finished the day with four hits (a home run), four runs, and two runs batted in. Cameron Bufford had a hit, two runs, and an RBI. Julian Murphy finished the game with a hit, two runs, and a run batted in. Jose Vargas pulled up the rear with a run and an RBI.

Mason Martinez picked up the win for Grambling with seven innings pitched for seven hits, two run, nine strikeouts, and faced 26 batters.

Nico Garcia suffered the loss for Alcorn with seven hits, seven runs, four walks, one strikeout, and faced 16 batters.

Game Two
The Braves finished game two with a run on five hits while committing three errors. Nathan Gamez had two hits and an RBI.

GSU ended the game with 11 runs on nine hits while committing two errors. Bennett had a hit (a home run), a run, and three RBI. Bufford finished the game with one hit, a run, and a run batted in. Walker ended the day with two hits, two runs, and an RBI. Martavious Thomas finished the game with a hit, a run, and a run batted in.

Phillip Bryant snapped up the win for the Tigers with six innings pitched for five hits, one run, three walks, five strikeouts, and faced 26 batters.

Myles Dews picked up the loss for Alcorn with three innings pitched for five hits, seven runs, three walks, a wild pitch and faced 17 batters.

Game Three
ASU scored eight runs on eight hits while committing three errors. Ty Boze finished the game with a run, a hit, and three RBI. Jermel Ford had two hits, a run, and two runs batted in. Dillon Brown ended the day with two hits, two runs, and an RBI. Jaylon Burrell finished with a hit, a run, and a run batted in.

Grambling State scored nine runs on 10 hits while committing two errors. Borom had four hits, one run and three batted in. Inman and Bufford accounted for an RBI each. Murphy ended the game with three hits, a run, and an RBI. Trey Burrell finished with a hit and an RBI.

Javier Martinez earned the win for the Tigers with 1.1 innings pitched for two hits, two runs (one earned), one walk, one strikeout, two wild pitches and faced nine batters.

Kiki Ford, Jr. picked up the loss for the Braves with 1.1 innings pitched for three hits, three runs, four walks, two strikeouts and faced 11 batters.

Alcorn will be back in action on April 23-24 as they face Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, La. First pitch for April 23 is set for 6 p.m. and for April 24 at 3 p.m.
