Braves Drop Series to Texas Southern, 1-2

LORMAN, Miss. -- Alcorn State University baseball hosted Texas Southern University in the last home series of the 2024 campaign on Thursday and Friday. The Braves also honored seniors Jamil Betancourt, Austin Matsoff, Jordan Holt, Garrett Palladino, and Diego Lopez-Molina as they competed in their final game in a Braves uniform.
ASU fought hard and won the first game, 8-6, but dropped the doubleheader, 5-14 and 1-19.

Game One
    Alcorn scored eight runs on 13 hits while committing no errors. Garrett Palladino finished the game with three hits, two runs, and three runs batted in. Ben Martin had a hit, two runs, and two RBI while Kalum Banks, Jr. finished with a hit, a run, and two batted in.

    The Tigers scored six runs on seven hits while committing seven errors. Tyler Williams had a hit, two runs, and three RBI.

    Nico Garcia snapped up the win for the Braves with 3.2 innings pitched for two walks, two strikeouts, and faced 13 batters. Kiki Ford, Jr. picked up the save with six batters faced for a run, a hit, two walks, and a strikeout.

    Jonathan Castro suffered the loss for Texas Southern with a hit, a strikeout, and two batters faced.

Game Two
    Alcorn scored five runs on 11 hits while committing an error. Palladino finished the contest with three hits, two runs, and one run batted in. Diego Lopez-Molina had two hits, one run, and one RBI.

    TSU scored 14 runs on eight hits with no errors. Edmundo Alanis finished with three hits, two runs, and four RBI. Nasir Frederick had a hit, two runs, and three batted in. Tyler Williams finished the contest with a hit, a run, and two RBI.

    Justin Barnes picked up the win for the Tigers with 1.2 innings pitched for three hits, a run, a strikeout, and nine batters faced.

    Kewan Braziel suffered the loss for Alcorn with 6.2 innings pitched for four hits, six runs, five walks, five strikeouts, and 29 batters faced.

Game Three
    Alcorn scored a run on five hits while committing five errors. Ben Martin finished the game with a run and a hit.

    Texas Southern scored 19 runs on 17 hits while committing an error. Frederick had three hits, four runs, and two runs batted in. Nin Burns, II finished the game with three hits, two runs, and four RBI. Victor Molina had three hits, two runs, and two runs batted in.

    Josiah Castro picked the win for TSU with 4.1 innings pitched for two hits, two strikeouts, and 14 batters faced.

    Kevin Johnson suffered the loss for Alcorn State with one inning pitched for a hit, two runs, two walks, a strikeout, and seven batters faced.
