BATON ROUGE, La. – Teresa Gallegos and the Alcorn State University women's track and field team competed in the 2024 Southwestern Athletic Conference Track and Field Championships. Gallegos finished in the top three of her event capping off a season of top finishes for the star runner.
Gallegos finished in second place in the 10,000-meter run in 42:17.33.
Joyce Kiptum also competed for the Lady Braves in the event and finished in 46:55.52. Christina Fitzpatrick of Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU) came in first place in 41:48.57 while Taisha Benjamin of Alabama State University finished in third place in 43:40.89.
Shareen Cheruiyot ran for Alcorn in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and finished in fifth place in 12:06.95. Benjamin (Alabama State) claimed first place in 11:40.35 while Sanyae Gibson of Alabama A&M University came in second place in 11:45.26. Niya Coleman of Florida A&M University finished in third place in 11:52.07.
In the 100-meter run, Tekysa Thompson,
Taliya Spurlock, and
Kadijah Ramsey competed for the Lady Braves. Thompson finished the run in 12.35 seconds, Spurlock in 12.53 seconds, and Ramsey in 12.69 seconds. Asjah Harris (PVAMU) won the event in 11.34 seconds while Nya Blocker of Florida A&M University (FAMU) came in second place in 11.49 seconds. Rori Lowe (FAMU) finished in third place in 11.55 seconds.
Brianna Wilson,
Shy'Kerria Curtis, and
Tionna Harris ran for Alcorn State in the 200-meter run. Wilson finished the event in 26.19 seconds, Curtis in 26.30 seconds, and Harris in 26.30 seconds. Jaqual Bush (Alabama State) came in first place in 23.67 seconds while teammate, Quincy Penn, finished in second place in 23.85 seconds. Asjah Harris (PVAMU) came in third place in 24.10 seconds.
In the 400-meter run, Harris and Ward competed for the Lady Braves. Harris finished in 59.14 seconds while Ward finished in 59.24 seconds. Penn (Alabama State) came in first place in 54.76 seconds. Amari Wrightsil of Grambling State University (GSU) finished in second place in 55.00 seconds. Shelby Brooks of Texas Southern University (TSU) claimed third place in 55.22 seconds.
Samouya Nevers ran for Alcorn in the 800-meter run and finished in 2:42.41. Lacie Deboskie (FAMU) came in first place in 2:11.04 while Taliah Wickett (Alabama State) claimed second place in 2:11.85. Alesia Douglas (FAMU) finished in third place in 2:11.93.
In the 400-meter hurdles,
Jade Ceasar competed for Alcorn State and finished in 1:05.99. Camille Lewis of Southern University came in first place in 1:00.30 while teammate, Sierra Session, finished in second place in 1:00.85. Katelynn Smith (FAMU) claimed third place in 1:01.58.
Alcorn's 4x100-meter relay team (Wilson, Ramsey, Thompson, and Spurlock) finished the event in 47.20 seconds. Alabama State won the event in 44.22 seconds while FAMU came in second place in 44.59 seconds. PVAMU claimed third place in 44.85 seconds.
The Lady Braves 4x400-meter relay team (Harris, Wilson, Caesar, and Ward) finished the event in 3:58.55. FAMU placed first in the event in 3:40.17 while Alabama State came in second in the event in 3:40.56. Texas Southern claimed third place in 3:43.61.
De'Asha Davis competed in the long jump for Alcorn and finished with 5.31 meters (17' 5.25"). Mylani Galbreath (JSU) won the event with 6.09 meters (19' 11.75") while Shatara Johnson (GSU) came in second place with 5.96 meters (19' 6.75"). Breanna Brown (FAMU) claimed third place with 5.85 meters (19' 2.5").
Davis also competed in the triple jump for the Lady Braves and finished with 11.94 meters (39' 2.25"). Savoria Anderson (PVAMU) won first place with 12.78 meters (41' 11.25") and Mia Heard (FAMU) came in second place with 12.30 meters (40' 4.25"). Yasmine Grace (Alabama State) finished in third place with 12.26 meters (40' 2.75").
Destinee Lanham and
Gabrielle Christopher competed Alcorn in the shot-put event. Lanham finished with 9.05 meters (29' 8.25") while Christopher finished with 7.80 meters (25' 7.25"). Lilliann Dudley (JSU) claimed the event with 14.37 meters (47' 1.75") and A'ja Gore (Southern) took second place with 13.52 meters (44' 4.25"). Cornelia Watts (UAPB) came in third place with 13.41 meters (44').
