Lady Braves Earn Top Finishes at NSU Leon Johnson Invite

NATCHITOCHES, La. – The Alcorn State University women's track and field team turned in an impressive outing at the NSU Leon Johnson Invitational hosted by Northwestern State University on April 12, highlighted by multiple top-10 finishes, personal records (PRs), and strong relay performances.

Top Performances and Personal Records
  • T'La Dewitt posted a standout day on the track, finishing sixth in the 200-meter dash with a PR of 24.33 seconds, currently ranked #26 among 2025 HBCU performances, and sixth in the 400-meter dash with another PR of 56.06 seconds, ranked #29 among HBCUs.
  • Brianna Wilson placed fifth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.25 seconds and finished eighth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.56 seconds.
  • Taliya Spurlock grabbed an eighth-place finish in the 100-meter dash, clocking 12.48 seconds.
  • Teresa Gallegos continued her strong season, finishing third in the women's 1500-meter run with a PR of 4:53.34, ranked #24 among HBCUs.
  • Destinee Lanham placed ninth in the women's discus throw with a PR of 35.20 meters (115-06 ft.), while Jamyah Williams finished tenth with a mark of 34.60 meters (113-06 ft.).
  • Kaylin White showcased her versatility with an eighth-place finish in the women's javelin throw (24.44 meters/80-02 ft.) and a tenth-place finish in the long jump (5.30 meters/17-04.75 ft.).
  • Lauryn Lewis placed fifth in the women's triple jump with a mark of 10.59 meters (34-09.00 ft.) and finished twelfth in the long jump (5.17 meters/16-11.50 ft.).
  • Jamyah Williams also secured a tenth-place finish in the women's shot put with a throw of 10.58 meters (34-08.50 ft.).
Relay Highlights The Lady Braves will return to action on Sunday, April 27, at the Jaguar Invitational hosted by the University of South Alabama in Mobile, Alabama, as they continue their outdoor season.
