BATON ROUGE, La. – The Alcorn State University track and field teams delivered a strong performance over the opening two days of the 2025 SWAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Southern University at A.W. Mumford Stadium. With a silver and bronze medal already secured, along with several personal bests and top-10 finishes, the Braves head into the final day of competition with momentum and confidence.
Day 1 Highlights – Sunday, May 11 - RESULTS
Senior Teresa Gallegos kicked off the championships in impressive fashion, capturing the
silver medal in the women's 10,000-meter run with a time of
39:34.90. Her podium finish adds to a standout senior campaign and sets the tone for a busy week on the track.
In the preliminary round of the
women's 200-meter dash,
T'La Dewitt clocked
24.23 seconds, just missing the finals by fractions of a second, placing
ninth overall in a loaded field.
Brianna Wilson (25.03) and
Shy'Kerria Curtis (26.19) also represented Alcorn in the event.
Lauryn Lewis and
Mercedes Sewell competed in the
women's long jump, placing 20th and 21st respectively, while
Jamyah Williams threw
9.99m (32-9.5 ft.) to place 17th in the
women's shot put.
On the men's side,
Derrick Williams advanced to the
200-meter finals, posting a time of
21.13 seconds, while
Vederek Matthews moved on in the
400-meter hurdles with a preliminary time of
54.68 seconds.
In distance action,
Bryan Alvarez placed 12th in the
men's 10,000-meter run, crossing the line in
37:35.84. In the field,
Jeremiah Saintil recorded a mark of
6.08m (19-11.5 ft.) in the
long jump.

Day 2 Highlights – Monday, May 12 - RESULTS
The Lady Braves earned another trip to the podium as
junior Kaylin White claimed
bronze in the women's heptathlon after a consistent and gritty performance across all seven events. White's scoring was highlighted by:
- 3rd in the 100-meter hurdles (15.21)
- 4th in the high jump (1.53m / 5-0.25 ft.)
- 4th in shot put (10.98m / 36-0.25 ft.)
- 2nd in 200-meter dash (25.53)
- 3rd in long jump (5.48m / 17-11.75 ft.)
- 5th in javelin throw (23.09m / 75-9 ft.)
- 6th in 800-meter run (2:38.57)
Teresa Gallegos returned to action with a
personal-best 4:50.35 in the
1500-meter prelims, qualifying for the finals, and will look to medal again before the championships conclude.
Freshman
T'La Dewitt had another strong outing, advancing to the
400-meter dash finals after clocking a
PR of 55.57 seconds, while
Brianna Wilson (57.77) and
Jaleah Netter (1:01.17) competed in the same event.
Taliya Spurlock represented the Braves in the
100-meter dash prelims, running
12.35 seconds against stiff competition.
On the men's side,
Derrick Williams once again made noise, qualifying for the
100-meter finals with a time of
10.49 seconds, while
Trellas Forrest ran the second-fastest time in the
400-meter prelims at
46.32 seconds, punching his ticket to the finals.
The Braves return to action for the final day of the SWAC Outdoor Championships on Tuesday, May 13, with opportunities for additional podium finishes and a strong team finish.
