LORMAN – The Alcorn State Lady Braves fought hard but fell 66-56 to Alabama A&M in a SWAC conference matchup on Saturday afternoon at the Davey L. Whitney Health & Physical Education Complex.
Destiny Brown was a standout for the Lady Braves, posting a dominant double-double with game-high 25 points, 12 rebounds, and two assists.
Zy'Nyia White added 10 points off the bench, and
Kailyn Watkins contributed seven points. Despite a strong second-half performance, the Lady Braves were unable to overcome Alabama A&M's early lead.
GAME RECAP
First Quarter – Alabama A&M 22, Alcorn 6
- Alabama A&M came out strong, hitting four three-pointers in the first quarter, including two from Mailyn Wilkerson, who finished with a team-high 22 points.
- Destiny Brown scored Alcorn's first points on a tip-in, but the Lady Braves struggled to find rhythm offensively.
Second Quarter – Alabama A&M 33, Alcorn 19
- Alcorn began to settle in during the second quarter, with Kailyn Watkins knocking down a three-pointer and Brown adding six points in the paint.
- Alabama A&M's Alisha Wilson maintained the Lady Bulldogs momentum with tough finishes inside, extending the halftime lead to 14.
Third Quarter – Alabama A&M 52, Alcorn 39
- The Lady Braves came alive in the third quarter, outscoring Alabama A&M 20-19.
- Brown scored nine points in the frame, including an and-one layup to cut into the deficit.
- Zy'Nyia White hit a key three-pointer late in the quarter, providing a spark off the bench.
Fourth Quarter – Alabama A&M 66, Alcorn 56
- Alcorn continued to battle in the final period, with Brown and Watkins combining for nine points.
- The Lady Braves cut the lead to single digits with a layup by Kiarra Henderson, but Alabama A&M's timely free-throw shooting sealed the victory.
