JACKSON, Miss. – Alcorn State women's soccer battled conference rival Jackson State to a 0-0 draw Sunday afternoon at the JSU Soccer Complex.
The Lady Braves (4-5-4, 3-1-2 SWAC) held their own against one of the league's top teams, matching the Lady Tigers (6-6-3, 5-1-1) in an intense defensive contest.
Goalkeeper Maria Heuman anchored the Alcorn defense with a standout performance, collecting 12 saves to record her third shutout of the season. The back line of Veronica Smith, Viviana Sanchez, Yeirdan Padilla, Rebecca Kwoba, and Elive Larissa Joso Luma kept Jackson State off the scoreboard despite 19 total shots.
Offensively, Iesha Rollins led Alcorn with five shots, including three on goal, while Kwoba and Annick Zouma each added key attempts that challenged the JSU keeper. The Lady Braves came alive in the second half, outshooting Jackson State 9-9 in the period and creating several late opportunities.
The Lady Braves return to action on Saturday, October 26, traveling to Prairie View A&M for another SWAC matchup. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at the PVAMU Soccer Complex.
