ITTA BENA, Miss. – Alcorn State volleyball dropped a competitive Southwestern Athletic Conference matchup on the road Monday night, falling 3-1 (25-15, 14-25, 25-19, 25-14) to Mississippi Valley State inside the R.W. Harrison Complex.
Courtney Carter paced the Lady Braves with 12 kills, 12 digs, and two blocks while hitting .105 on the night. Kayla Jones added nine kills, four digs, and a block assist, while Kasey Watkins chipped in eight kills and three blocks. Setter Juliana Henao finished with 26 assists, 10 digs, and four service aces to lead the floor attack.
Tomoni Giddings anchored the defense with 13 digs and a pair of service aces. Michaela Branner recorded seven kills and three digs, and Cristin Webb contributed six kills and a block.
Alcorn State (4-15, 1-10 SWAC) battled back in the second set with strong serving and efficient hitting to even the match at 1-1, highlighted by a .148 team hitting percentage and three total blocks in the frame. Despite the effort, the Devilettes (2-21, 1-9 SWAC) capitalized on key runs in the third and fourth sets to seal their first conference win of the season.
The Lady Braves return to action this weekend, traveling to Houston, Texas, to face Texas Southern on Sunday.
