Story Links

VICKSBURG, Miss. – Alcorn State women's soccer delivered an explosive first half to claim a dominant 6-0 victory over Alabama State on Sunday afternoon at Key City Park. The win moves the Lady Braves to 3-5-3 overall and 2-1-1 in SWAC play.

The Lady Braves wasted no time taking control of the match as Iesha Rollins found the back of the net just three minutes into play. Rollins continued her scoring touch with two more goals in the opening half, completing her hat trick by the 33rd minute.

Annick Zouma added to the offensive surge with her fifth goal of the season in the ninth minute, while Sophia Lopez recorded her first and second goals of the year, scoring twice in the first half. Ainara Aldeano assisted on Lopez's second strike, rounding out a six-goal first period for Alcorn.

Rollins led the attack with four shots, three on target, and three goals. Zouma tallied four shots with one goal, and Lopez was efficient with two shots on goal, both finding the net.

Goalkeeper Maria Heuman earned the shutout victory, playing all 90 minutes and facing no shots from the Lady Hornets. The Alcorn defense, anchored by Veronica Smith, Yeirdan Padilla, and Viviana Sanchez, held Alabama State without a single shot attempt throughout the match.

The Lady Braves out shot Alabama State 12-0 and held a 55 percent edge in possession.

Alcorn will continue conference play next weekend on the road. The Lady Braves return to action looking to build on their strong showing as they move further into the SWAC schedule.
