LORMAN, Miss. – Alcorn State women's basketball delivered its most complete outing of the season Monday night, overpowering Rust College 72–32 inside the Davey L. Whitney Complex.
The Lady Braves (3-5) set the tone early, opening the game on a 22–6 first-quarter surge and controlling all four periods with aggressive defense and efficient perimeter scoring. Alcorn forced 18 turnovers and turned them into 18 fast-break points while holding Rust to just 17.9 percent shooting from the field.
Nakia Cheatham led the way with a polished performance, scoring 17 points on 6-of-10 shooting, including a three-pointer, while adding four rebounds and an assist. Maya Claytor caught fire from long range, draining five three-pointers to finish with 15 points and six rebounds.
Kiarra Henderson continued her consistent production on both ends of the floor, finishing with 11 points, six rebounds, four assists, and four steals. Her energy fueled a third-quarter run that put the contest out of reach.
Alcorn's depth also made a strong impact. Chrishunti Walker pulled down seven rebounds, while Dalayja Hurt-Floyd added five points, two steals, and two assists. Lauren Nelson contributed five points, five rebounds, and two assists as part of a well-rounded team effort.
The Lady Braves dominated the glass with a 57–32 rebounding advantage, including 17 offensive boards that led to second-chance opportunities. Alcorn also connected on 10 three-pointers while limiting Rust to just five makes from beyond the arc.
With the win, Alcorn now turns its attention to its next matchup on the road. The Lady Braves travel to Birmingham to face UAB on December 15, with tip-off scheduled for 6 p.m.
