LORMAN – Alcorn State University's second baseman,
Ben Martin, has been named to the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Preseason Second Team, as announced by the conference on Monday, February 10. Additionally, the Braves are projected to finish 11th in the SWAC's preseason predicted order of finish.
Martin, a junior from Cut Off, Louisiana, finished the 2024 season appearing in 45 games with 39 starts, batted .265, with 31 hits, 18 runs scored, 20 RBI's, and was a perfect 4-for-4 in stolen base attempts.
The upcoming season also marks the debut of Head Coach
Carlton Hardy at the helm of Alcorn State's baseball program. Coach Hardy joins the Braves following a successful tenure at Savannah State University, where he led the team to multiple winning seasons and developed a reputation for building competitive and disciplined squads.
The SWAC's preseason predictions have placed the Braves 11th in the anticipated order of finish. Despite this ranking, the combination of Martin's on-field prowess and Coach Hardy's leadership brings a renewed sense of optimism and determination to the team as they prepare for the 2025 season.
Alcorn State is set to commence their 2025 campaign on Friday, February 14 as the Braves take on Western Illinois in Itta Bena, Mississippi. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. CST.
