VICKSBURG, Miss. – The Alcorn State women's tennis team delivered a strong performance on Sunday, securing a 5-2 victory over Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College at the City Park Courts. The Lady Braves (3-5) took control of the match early, winning two out of three doubles contests before clinching four victories in singles play.
DOUBLES
Alcorn set the tone in doubles action, claiming the point with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions.
Nikita Liyanage and Oihane Villanueva Lopez cruised to a 6-2 win on Court 2, while the duo of
Ozi-Oiza Yakubu and Aanya Rao edged their opponents 6-4 at the No. 3 spot.
Natalija Nikolic and Doaa Mohamed fought hard at No. 1 but fell 6-4.

SINGLES
The Lady Braves continued their dominance in singles play, picking up four wins to secure the team victory.
Doaa Mohamed led the way at No. 1, rallying for a hard-fought 7-5 first set before closing out a dominant 6-0 second-set win.
Oihane Villanueva Lopez showed great resilience at No. 3, battling through a three-set thriller to win 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.
At No. 4,
Yakubu delivered a clutch performance, winning a first-set tiebreaker before sealing the match with a 7-6(4), 6-4 victory.
Liyanage was impressive at No. 6, making quick work of her opponent in a commanding 6-1, 6-1 win.
Rao was forced to retire due to injury in her match at No. 5, while Nikolic fell at No. 2 in straight sets.
