HUNTSVILLE, AL – Alcorn State baseball erupted for a season-high 21 runs to overpower Alabama A&M 21-11 on Sunday afternoon at Bulldog Field, securing a 2-1 series victory. The Braves (2-10) displayed an explosive offensive performance, racking up 16 hits and scoring in five different innings to claim their second win of the season.
Jermel Ford had a career day at the plate, going 4-for-6 with five RBIs and four runs scored.
Ben Martin and Reyfield Adams each collected three RBIs, while
Nathan Gamez and
Samuel Leonard added two hits and three RBIs apiece. The Braves stole six bases, with Ford swiping four on his own.
On the mound,
Myles Dews (1-1) earned the win in relief, working 3.1 innings and allowing four runs while striking out one. Ethan Guzman and Peyton Baylis combined to hold Alabama A&M to just one run over the final
three innings to seal the victory.
The Braves erased an early 5-0 deficit with a six-run fourth inning and took control with another six-run burst in the fifth. A four-run seventh and a five-run eighth helped Alcorn put the game away.
