Box Score GRAMBLING, LA – Despite a five-run fifth inning and a multi-hit performance from
Jaylon Burrell, Alcorn State baseball fell 22-7 in the series opener against Grambling State on Friday night at Wilbert Ellis Field. The Braves (5-28, 1-15 SWAC) showed fight midway through the game but couldn't overcome Grambling's explosive offense, which racked up 16 hits and plated runs in five different innings.
Burrell went 3-for-4 with four RBIs, including a bases-clearing double and a solo home run in the seventh.
Clayvonjae Wright added a home run of his own and finished 1-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI. Jared Farmer collected an RBI single, and Tyler Boze drew two walks and tallied an RBI.
Jermel Ford (0-9) took the loss on the mound, allowing 10 runs (nine earned) in 3.2 innings of work. Grambling used a six-run fourth and six-run
fifth to take control after a scoreless third inning briefly slowed their offense.

- The Braves had early baserunners but couldn't cash in, with pickoffs ending two promising frames.
- Grambling jumped ahead with a run in the first and three more in the second, including a solo home run by Nyan Hayes and a sacrifice fly from K. Jacobs-Guishard.
Fourth Inning – Grambling State 10, Alcorn 0
- Grambling broke the game open with a six-run fourth inning, highlighted by RBI hits from Shannon Martin, Chenar Brown, and a two-run single from Martin again after the Braves went to the bullpen.
Fifth Inning – Grambling State 16, Alcorn 5
- The Braves struck back in the fifth with five runs of their own.
- After loading the bases, Boze walked to bring in a run before Burrell cleared the bases with a three-RBI double. A wild pitch allowed Burrell to come around and score to cut the lead to 10.
- Grambling answered immediately with six more runs in the bottom half, including a two-run home run by Trey Bridges and a bases-clearing single by Terry Burrell III.
Sixth & Seventh Innings – Grambling State 22, Alcorn 7
- Clayvonjae Wright homered to lead off the sixth, and Burrell followed with a solo shot in the seventh—his first homer of the year.
- Grambling sealed the game in the bottom of the sixth with a three-run home run by Burrell III and a two-RBI double from Jacobs-Guishard, bringing the run-rule into play after seven innings.
