Braves Outslugged by Prairie View in High-Scoring Finale

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – Alcorn State baseball wrapped up its SWAC road series with a high-scoring contest on Monday afternoon but ultimately fell 20-6 to Prairie View A&M at Tankersley Field. The Braves (6-37, 1-23 SWAC) recorded nine hits and scored in three separate innings but could not overcome the Panthers' 19-hit, 20-run onslaught.

Jermel Ford and Kanious Davis led the Braves offensively, each collecting multiple extra-base hits, while Samuel Leonard added a two-RBI single in a four-run third inning. However, Prairie View strung together big innings in the first, fourth, and sixth frames to take control of the game.

Momentum Swings
  • Prairie View responded immediately with a five-run fourth inning, fueled by a pair of doubles and a fielder's choice.
  • Alcorn added a fifth run in the fifth on an RBI groundout by Gavin Caston, scoring Davis who had singled and stolen two bases during the inning.
Sixth Inning Surge
  • The Panthers broke the game open in the sixth with nine runs, including a three-run homer by Ahmar Donatto and a grand slam by Michael Burroughs.
