LORMAN, Miss. – Alcorn State University student-athletes continue to set the standard both on and off the field, as reflected in the latest Academic Progress Rate (APR) data released by the NCAA. The Braves proudly report no penalties or postseason ineligibility for any athletic program, underscoring the department's unwavering commitment to academic success and integrity.
Four Alcorn teams achieved perfect single-year APR scores of 1000 for the 2023-24 year in the most recent report: Men's Tennis, Women's Cross Country, Women's Tennis, and Women's Track & Field — and Nine teams received a score of 950 or better for the multi-year report - a testament to the hard work of student-athletes, coaches, and academic support staff. These scores place Alcorn State in the top tier of the Southwestern Athletic Conference for this year's Academic Progress Rates.
"This report highlights the core of who we are at Alcorn," said Athletic Director D'Wayne Robinson. "Our mission is to build champions and scholars. We're proud to see our student-athletes thriving in the classroom, and this level of achievement shows the strength of our academic support system, coaches' leadership, and the determination of our Braves."
The NCAA's multi-year APR scores reflect data from a four-year period, measuring eligibility, retention, and graduation of student-athletes. Teams must maintain a multi-year APR of 930 to remain in good standing. Alcorn State exceeded that threshold across all programs, showcasing consistent progress and a stable academic foundation.
In addition to APR success, a growing number of Alcorn student-athletes earned academic accolades during the academic year. Over 65 student athletes were named to the Dean's List, while several others were honored with departmental academic awards, reflecting a strong culture of scholarly achievement. Additionally, Alcorn State athletics looks forward to celebrating 60 student-athletes graduating in spring commencement.
"Our student-athletes continue to exemplify what it means to be leaders in the classroom, in competition, and in life," said Dr. Tracy M. Cook, President of Alcorn State University. "These academic accomplishments are a reflection of the university's commitment to holistic student development and the excellence that defines Brave Nation."
The APR announcement follows a series of academic and athletic milestones at Alcorn and aligns with the department's broader goals of enhancing the student-athlete experience, fundraising for academic support resources, and investing in facility upgrades that foster student success.
