LORMAN, Miss. – One of the South's premier football events is adding a new chapter, and the Alcorn State Braves will be front and center. Alcorn State University Football is headed to Memphis to take on the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff in the 2025 Southern Heritage Classic, set for
Saturday, September 27 at
Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium.
The annual Classic, which celebrates tradition, legacy, and culture, will feature the Braves in one of the region's most anticipated HBCU matchups of the fall. Kickoff time and ticket information will be announced soon.
"We're honored to be part of this year's Southern Heritage Classic," said Alcorn State Head Coach
Cedric Thomas. "It's an opportunity to showcase Alcorn football on a big stage while celebrating HBCU pride, pageantry, and community."
This marks Alcorn's first appearance in the Southern Heritage Classic. The Braves are coming off a strong campaign and enter the 2025 season with high expectations, including a preseason No. 2 prediction in the SWAC Western Division. The matchup with UAPB is expected to be a key moment in the Braves' conference slate.
In addition to the game itself, fans can look forward to a full weekend of festivities in Memphis, including concerts, tailgates, and a battle of the bands — all honoring the tradition and excellence of HBCUs.
