LORMAN, Miss. – Alcorn State University men's and women's tennis programs are set to return to the courts this fall with a competitive slate of tournaments that will test and prepare the Braves and Lady Braves for the upcoming championship season.
Both teams open their 2025 fall campaigns on Friday, September 12, traveling to New Orleans, Louisiana, to compete in a season-opening matchup hosted by the University of New Orleans. The fall season continues the following week at the HBCU National Championship in Atlanta, Georgia, on Thursday, September 18, where the programs will represent Alcorn against top-tier competition from Historically Black Colleges and Universities nationwide.
On Friday, October 3, the Braves and Lady Braves will participate in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Fall Tournament in Huntsville, Alabama, a key conference preview featuring teams from across the league.
The women's team will conclude their fall slate on Friday, October 31, with a trip to Tuscaloosa, Alabama, to face off in a high-level competition hosted by the University of Alabama.
Head Coach Stas Smirnov, entering the season with high expectations for both squads, expressed excitement about the schedule.
"The fall season is critical for our development," said Smirnov. "We've built a schedule that gives our student-athletes the opportunity to compete at a high level, sharpen their skills, and gain confidence heading into the spring. We're looking forward to seeing how they respond and grow with each event."
The fall schedule offers valuable experience as the Alcorn tennis programs continue to build momentum under Coach Smirnov's leadership.
