STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Alcorn State women's soccer showed poise on the road Thursday night, earning a 1–1 draw against Tarleton State at the Tarleton Soccer Complex. The result moves the Lady Braves to 1-3-2 on the season.
Midfielder Ainara Aldeano delivered the breakthrough early in the second half, finishing a feed from Natalie Penniston-John in the 48th minute for her first goal of the year. The advantage held until the 84th minute, when Tarleton's Stevie Reynolds leveled the match.
Alcorn generated 11 shots with five on target, led by Aldeano's three attempts and two apiece from Annick Zouma and Deryn Doamekpor. Iesha Rollins and Elive Larissa Joso Luma also added key chances as the Lady Braves matched the Texans in possession and intensity.
Goalkeeper Maria Heuman anchored the defense with six saves over 58 minutes before Bame Mokime came on to finish the match, turning away two shots to preserve the tie. Defenders Viviana Sanchez and Yeirdan Padilla each played the full 90 minutes to help limit Tarleton to one goal despite 17 total shots.
Alcorn will look to build on the strong performance when the Lady Braves tarvel to face SMU on Sunday in Dallas, TX.
