MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Alcorn volleyball team secured its first victory of the 2025 campaign on Friday afternoon, sweeping LeMoyne-Owen in straight sets (25–20, 25–15, 25–20) at the Canale Arena.
Sophomore Ma'kayla Coats led the way offensively, recording a team-high 9 kills on 22 attempts to go with 4 service aces and 8 digs for a match-best 13 points.
Courtney Carter added 4 kills and 4 points, while
Kyla Davis chipped in 5 kills.
Alcorn spread the offense effectively, with
Michaela Branner (4 kills, 2 service aces),
Bailey Upshaw (2 kills, .333 hitting), and
Rylan Jones (1.000 hitting on one attempt) all contributing at the net.
Defensively, the Braves held LeMoyne-Owen to an even .000 hitting percentage, forcing 34 kills against 34 errors.
Tomoni Giddings anchored the back row with 12 digs, while
Erin Mims added 5 digs and 6 assists.
Alcorn's best set came in the second, when the Braves hit .318 with 10 kills on just 22 attempts.
The Lady Braves return to action tomorrow in the CBU Tri-Match against University of Arkansas at Monticello and host Christian Brothers University.
