MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Alcorn State volleyball team put up a fight in each set but came up short against Christian Brothers in a 3–0 (12-25, 17-25, 18-25) decision Friday afternoon inside Canale Arena.
Freshman
Rylan Jones led the Braves with five kills and added six and a half points overall.
Courtney Carter also made her presence felt with five kills and fifteen total attempts, while
Michaela Branner was perfect on the attack with two kills on two attempts.
Alcorn spread the ball around as multiple Braves chipped in.
Erin Mims tallied nine assists and two service aces, while
Juliana Henao added six assists and five digs. Defensively,
Tomoni Giddings and
Kyla Powell combined for eleven digs, and middle
Kyla Davis and right side Ma'kayla Coats each contributed key attacks to keep rallies alive.
The Braves improved their offensive rhythm as the match went on, hitting .148 in both the second and third sets after a slow start in the first. Coats provided an offensive spark late with three kills and a .500 hitting percentage.
Christian Brothers was paced by Ella Schumacher with eight kills and two aces, while Addison Waggoner added five kills on a .556 hitting clip.
Alcorn State will look to regroup and build on the positives as they prepare for their next matchup in the CBU Tri-Match.
