Lorman, Miss. – Fresh off a confidence-boosting road victory, the Alcorn State men's basketball team returns to Southwestern Athletic Conference action Monday night when the Braves travel to Montgomery to face Alabama State. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome.
Alcorn enters the contest riding the momentum of a 64–62 win at Alabama A&M on Saturday, a result that marked a significant milestone for the program. The victory delivered head coach
Jake Morton his first career SWAC win and snapped a lengthy stretch of close conference battles, giving the Braves renewed energy as league play continues.
The Braves were led by their backcourt depth and timely execution late against Alabama A&M, a theme that has defined much of Alcorn's offensive production this season.
Shane Lancaster continues to pace the Braves, averaging 11.4 points per game while shooting an efficient 52.5 percent from the field and an impressive 57.7 percent from three-point range. His ability to stretch defenses has been a steady constant for Alcorn.
Davian Williams has provided another scoring punch, averaging 8.6 points per game while knocking down 20 three-pointers on the season. In the frontcourt,
Tycen McDaniels has been a consistent presence, contributing 8.9 points and a team-high 4.1 rebounds per contest, while
Nick Woodard adds 8.1 points and four rebounds per game and has been active on both ends of the floor.
Jameel Morris continues to be a key facilitator and perimeter defender for the Braves, averaging 9.0 points per game and leading the team in assists, while providing veteran leadership during key stretches of play.
As a team, Alcorn is averaging 65.3 points per game and shooting 41.4 percent from the field, including 37.4 percent from beyond the arc. The Braves have leaned on ball movement and perimeter shooting to stay competitive throughout a challenging nonconference schedule and are looking to carry that approach deeper into SWAC play.
Monday's matchup presents another opportunity for Alcorn to turn early-season lessons into conference success. With confidence building and belief growing in the locker room, the Braves aim to string together back-to-back league wins and continue laying the foundation under Morton's first season at the helm.
