Story Links

MONTGOMERY, AL - Alcorn State men's basketball faced a tough road challenge Monday night, falling 81–66 to Alabama State at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome in Montgomery.

The Braves competed throughout the opening half, keeping the game within reach behind steady offensive execution and second-chance opportunities. Alcorn trailed 38–32 at the break after shooting 36.7 percent from the field in the opening period, while holding Alabama State to just four made three-pointers in the half.

Tycen McDaniels led the Braves with 14 points, adding eight rebounds and providing a consistent presence in the paint on both ends of the floor. Shane Lancaster finished with 15 points, connecting on three three-pointers and adding three steals, while Jameel Morris contributed 10 points and four assists. Travis Roberts chipped in 10 points off the bench, knocking down three shots from beyond the arc.

Alcorn showed resilience early in the second half, trimming the deficit to as few as three points during a strong stretch fueled by transition scoring and offensive rebounds. The Braves finished the night with 16 second-chance points and 28 points in the paint, continuing to pressure the interior despite Alabama State's size advantage.

Alabama State pulled away late behind efficient shooting and fast-break opportunities, shooting 52 percent from the field and converting 21 free throws. The Hornets outscored Alcorn 43–34 in the second half to seal the result.

Alcorn State returns home for its next contest on Saturday, Jan. 17, with tipoff scheduled for 3 p.m. as the Braves look to build on the effort and regroup heading into the next stretch of conference play.
