BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –
Nakia Cheatham of Alcorn Women's Basketball has been tabbed Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Impact Player of the Week for the period of February 3-9, announced Tuesday afternoon by the league office in Birmingham, Alabama.
Nakia Cheatham, a 6-foot, redshirt senior from Clarksdale, Mississippi, helped the Braves to a perfect 2-0 week last week with home victories coming against Southern (La.) and Grambling State, respectively.
The former Coahoma CC student-athlete averaged 13.5 points and nine rebounds last week for the Purple and Gold, turning in 27 points altogether in the two contests. She shot 47.8 percent from the floor, including a 33.3 percent mark from beyond the arc. Against Grambling, Cheatham knocked down 8 of 16 shots from the field to register 18 points, adding 11 rebounds for her third double-double of the SWAC campaign. She went on to tally a game-high seven assists against the Tigers, as well as picking up a pair of steals.
Alcorn is currently enjoying a six-game winning streak in league play. The Braves travel to Mississippi Valley State on Thursday, Feb. 5, at 7 p.m.
This week's other SWAC Players of the Week on the women's side were Daeja Holmes (Player of the Week) from Texas Southern, as well as Shamya Reid (Newcomer of the Week) from Alabama State.
