Nick Woodard registered a team-high 16 points while
Shane Lancaster supplied 15 of his own Monday evening to help lead visiting Alcorn to a 74-66 win over Mississippi Valley State at R.W. Harrison HPER Complex in a Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Men's Basketball contest in Itta Bena, Mississippi.

Nick Woodard was one of three Alcorn (5-18, 4-7 SWAC) players to reach double-digits scoring on the night, while Mississippi Valley State (1-23, 0-10 SWAC) remained winless in league play despite receiving a game-high 28 points from one of the league's top scorers in Michael James.

Braves Standouts
•
Shane Lancaster reached double figures scoring for the 14th time on the season, while running his streak of at least one (1) three-pointer to five games.
• For Lancaster, it was his third game of the season connecting on five (5) three-pointers or better.
•
Nick Woodard's 16-point outburst allowed him to place in double-digit scoring for the fourth time in his last five outings. The performance was his most since scoring 21 at Jackson State back on January 3.
• Also adding double-digits was
Omari Hamilton with 13 points and registering a 5-for-7 touch at the foul line.
• Hamilton's five free throws was a new season-high for the Atlanta, Georgia native.
• From his point guard position,
Jameel Morris handed out four assists and amassed three steals. Meanwhile, Lancaster had a team-high five assists, respectfully.
• Morris has now handed out 22 total assists in his last six outings.
•
Davian Williams has recorded at least one (1) three-pointer in eight consecutive games dating back to January 17, at home versus Texas Southern.

How It Happened
• Alcorn outscored Mississippi Valley State by a commanding 20-2 edge in bench points.
• The Braves shot 52 percent from the field in the opening half, using a 5 of 13 mark from three-point range.
• A
Jeremy Ellis free throw off the bench put Alcorn up 20-7 with 9:22 remaining in the first half.
• The Alcorn lead would swell to as many as 15 twice before the break, including a
Davian Williams three-pointer – one of his two on the night, with 3:33 showing on the clock.
• As a team, Alcorn committed a season-low four turnovers, while going on to score 11 points off 11 MVSU miscues.
• In the second half, Alcorn managed an 18-point lead at 45-29 following a
Travis Roberts jumper from the right elbow just under four minutes into the half.
• The Braves advantage stayed between a 15-to-18-point margin for much of the second half.
• The Delta Devils used a X'Zaevion Barnett driving layup and a Michael James three-pointer to cut the lead down to 57-47 with 7:24 remaining in the contest.
• MVSU made it single digits for the first time since the early stages of the first half when Daniel Mayfield hit on a pair of free throws with 12 seconds left.
• Woodard scored 11 of his 16 points in the second half, using a 5-for-6 showing at the free throw line in the process.
• The Delta Devils outscored the Braves 41-38 in the second half, with James returning from a first half injury to pour in 15 of his game-high 28 points in the second stanza.
