BATON ROUGE, La. – Alcorn Men's and Women's Track & Field programs took part in day one action of the 2026 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Track & Field Outdoor Championships on Sunday, May 10, with the event taking place at A.W. Mumford Stadium on the campus of Southern University.

In the women's events,
Izayla Harris qualified for the finals of the 200m with a time of 23.84 seconds. Teammate
Sariah Magee set a new personal-best time of 24.17 on the day.
Taliya Spurlock crossed in 20th with a time of 24.84, followed directly by
Brianna Wilson (24.90).

Sanaa Parker would use a time of 1:00.93, qualifying for the final of the 400m hurdles.

In the long jump, it was
Taylar Brown establishing a leap of 5.95m (19-06.25) to finish fifth – also marking a personal- and team-best leap for the Purple and Gold across the campaign. Also jumping for the Braves was
Kaylin White with a mark of 5.54m (18-02.25).
Myah Knowles (4.84m) and
Zoe Adderly (4.67m) rounded out the participants in the long jump for Alcorn.

Meanwhile,
Erin Barr posted a mark of 5:17.69 in the 1500m for the Braves.

Silvia Jepkorir took part in the 10,000m run for the first time during the outdoor calendar, placing sixth overall with a time of 42:32.30.

For the men, defending champion
Derrick Williams turned in a qualifying mark of 20.99 seconds in the 200m preliminaries, allowing him to advance to the finals.
Joe Coleman was 14th in the prelims with a time of 21.67, as
Beethoven Phanord came across in 17th (21.76).

In the 400m hurdles,
Desmyn McCall posted the fourth-fastest time of 53.29, allowing him to qualify for the finals.
Ethan Campbell also ran for the Braves with a mark of 55.46, respectfully.

Darrian Wells posted a finishing time of 4:33.71 in the 1500m prelims, with teammate
Bryan Alvarez (4:39.60) coming in just behind him.

The field events saw
Lauria McDuffey III score a 22nd place finish in the long jump with a distance of 6.45m (21-02.00).

On the women's side, host Southern (La.) sits atop the leaderboard with 37.5 total points. Alabama A&M (18 points) and Bethune-Cookman (18 points) are currently in a tie for second.

Jackson State occupies first place with 34 total points on the men's side. Bethune-Cookman (31 points) and Texas Southern (19 points) sit in second and third place, respectively.

Day two of competition will begin at 9:30 a.m. CDT, with the Decathlon 110 meter hurdles.
The final day of competition (May 12) will be streamed live on SWAC TV beginning at 5 p.m. CDT, with the women's 4x100 meter relay event.
