LORMAN, Miss. – After a successful showing during the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Alcorn Men's Track & Field student-athletes
Trellas Forrest and
Derrick Williams have each qualified for entry I to the NCAA East Regional scheduled for May 27-30, in Lexington, Kentucky.
Trellas Forrest, the 400m SWAC Indoor champion from Winona, Mississippi, enters the regional after turning in his season-best time of 46.02 in the SWAC Outdoor Championships one week ago. That placed him second in the finals, allowing him a podium finish across both SWAC events for the 2025-26 year (indoor and outdoor), and back-to-back SWAC Outdoor podium appearances as well (2025, '26).
In the NCAA East rankings, Forrest is 45th, respectfully.
As for
Derrick Williams, the West Palm Beach, Florida, native had a pair of season-best performances in Baton Rouge by capturing the gold medal in both the 100- and 200m finals, respectively. His time of 10.17 seconds in the 100m places him 30th in the NCAA East rankings in that event, while the winning time of 20.49 seconds in the 200m equally ranks him 30th in the east.

Alonzo Banks praised both athletes for their mental toughness and consistency under pressure, noting that each is developed individually within the program.
"Our sport is very mental, and it's individual first," Banks said. "Forrest and Williams showed that they were ready. And they continue to lift this program year after year with their results. But the way they cheer for each other as well."
The NCAA East Regional will be housed at the University of Kentucky Outdoor Track and Field Facility is outfitted with a world class nine-lane blue synthetic polyurethane track, two dual-directional runways for jumps, as well as ample room for throwing and jumping events. The facility also boasts a practice track runway to make it among the nation's most innovative training sites.
