LORMAN, Miss. – Under the direction of Head Coach
Ken Kabiru, Alcorn Soccer announced its 2026 competitive schedule on Friday, a 17-match slate that includes seven home games at Key City Park in Vicksburg, Mississippi, and nine Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) contests.
Â
Coming off a season in which the Braves finished 5-8-4 overall, and grabbed a 3-3-2 record in SWAC play en route to the SWAC Tournament semifinals, Kabiru returns numerous pieces from his first year at the helm to try for a repeat performance in 2026.
Â
"This schedule tests us early with some quality non-conference opponents, and that's by design," commented Kabiru, recently completing his first year on the sideline for the Braves. "We want our players ready for SWAC play, and I believe the way we've built this challenging schedule gives us every opportunity to compete for a championship."
Â
The Braves open the season August 8 at Southwest Mississippi Community College as part of an exhibition match before their home opener five days later (August 13) against McNeese at 6 p.m. Alcorn will play four of its first six matches on the road, a stretch that includes trips to ULM, Nicholls, Kentucky and Mississippi State, before returning home September 3 to host Northwestern State.
Â
Non-conference play wraps up with a road trip to 23-time national champion North Carolina on September 20 ahead of the SWAC opener away to Alabama State (September 27).
Â
October brings the busiest home stretch of the year.
Â
Alcorn hosts three consecutive conference matches at Key City Park in the form of Grambling State (October 4), Arkansas-Pine Bluff (October 8), and Southern (October 18). Following the game against Southern, the Braves travel to in-state foe Jackson State (October 22), where the two sides battled to a goalless draw a season ago in Jackson.
Â
The Purple and Gold are set to close the road portion of the regular season at Texas Southern (October 25) and Prairie View A&M (November 1), before returning home to host Alabama A&M on November 5 for "Senior Appreciation Day."
Â
"Playing four home conference matches in October gives us a real chance to build momentum right when it matters most," added Kabiru. "Our fans really embraced Key City Park as a home field last year, and they were great for us."
Â
The 2026 SWAC Tournament is scheduled for November 11-15, in Prairie View, Texas.
