Ambrose Earns SWAC Weekly Honors

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alcorn Soccer's Grace Ambrose has been tabbed this week's Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Offensive Player of the Week for the period of August 18-24, 2026, announced Tuesday from the league office headquarters in Birmingham, Alabama.
 
A junior from Aba, Nigeria, Grace Ambrose opened the 2026 Braves campaign last week appearing and starting in two matches. She led Alcorn with three points – scoring one goal and adding an assist.
 
In the home- and season-opener to McNeese, the forward assisted the first goal of the season to Larissa Josa Luma in the 69th minute, pushing for a second half comeback in the process after pulling the Purple and Gold to within 2-1 at the time. Ambrose followed with the lone goal for the Braves in a Sunday matinee matchup away to Louisiana-Monroe, scoring in the 86th minute to help Alcorn avoid a shutout.
 
Ambrose finished the week with three total shots (.333 shots average) and a 66.7 shots on goal percentage to boot.
 
Texas Southern's Juliette Gomez was the league's Defensive Player of the Week, while two other Tigers in the form of Alessandra Bastidas (Goalkeeper of the Week) and Jiselle Caffey (Newcomer of the Week) swept the remaining weekly honors.
 
Alcorn returns to action Thursday, August 20, traveling to Nicholls in Thibodaux, Louisiana, at 7 p.m.
