Braves Set for Home Opener Thursday

Loreman,MS– Alcorn Soccer (1-3) will open its home opener this Thursday as they will take on Northwestern State(LA) (0-4) at Key Park in Vicksburg,MS. 

Alcorn is chasing another non-conference win after its 2-0 loss against Mississippi State on Sunday afternoon in Starksville,MS.

SERIES VS. NORTHWESTERN STATE

• Northwestern holds a 4-0 series lead dating back to 2005.

• First time matchup playing in Vicksburg,MS.

•First meeting was on 9/15/2025 at Alcorn.

ALCORN NOTES…

Grace Ambrose was named SWAC Offensive Player of the Week for the period of August 18-24.

Rebecca Kwoba and Bridget Sakyi have each played all 360 minutes this season, recording a full 90 minutes in each of the team's four games. 

Annick Zouma scored the lone goal in the last meeting on 8/24/25.

 

WHEN ALCORN LAST FACED NORTHWESTERN STATE…

The Lady Braves struck first after Annick Zouma capitalized on a Northwestern State turnover in the 20th minute to even the match at 1-1. Zouma's goal came after Alcorn opened the contest with several scoring opportunities, including a game-high seven shots from Grace Ambrose.

Northwestern State regained the lead before halftime and carried a 2-1 advantage into the break.

Alcorn continued to pressure the Demons in the second half and earned a penalty kick in the 54th minute. Elive Larissa Joso Luma stepped up for the Braves, but Northwestern State goalkeeper Kennedy Rist made a diving save to keep Alcorn off the scoreboard.

The Demons added an insurance goal in the 78th minute to extend their lead to 3-1.

Alcorn continued to create opportunities late, with Ambrose recording another shot in the final minutes, but the Braves were unable to find the back of the net.

 

SCOUTING THE DEVILS

• The Devils come in  midweek contest 0-4-0 

• Northwestern State has yet to play at home making this their 5 consecutive road game of the season.

• Lesha Rollins leads  the Braves' lone goal scorer this season, having recorded one goal. 

• The Devils have seven players who have started every game this season. 

• Head Coach Ian Brophy enters his third year at the helm for the Devils.
