Ambrose Nets Two in the Win

Braves improve to 2-1 against Southland Conference opponents with the 3-1 win.

VICKSBURG, Miss. – Two first-half goals from Grace Ambrose helped lead the Alcorn State Lady Braves (2-3) to a 3-1 victory over Northwestern State Thursday night at Key City Park.

Ambrose got the Lady Braves on the scoreboard early, finding the back of the net in the ninth minute off an assist from Deryn Doamekor to give Alcorn a 1-0 lead.
 

Ambrose struck again in the 32nd minute, recording her second goal of the match and extending the Braves' advantage to 2-0.
 

Just minutes later, Northwestern State committed a foul in the box, giving Annick Zouma an opportunity from the penalty spot. Zouma capitalized, sending her shot into the top corner to push the Braves' lead to 3-0.
 

Alcorn recorded nine shots in the first half, finishing the match with 15 total shots.
 

The Demons responded early in the second half, cutting the deficit to 3-1at the 43rd min. Alcorn shifted its focus defensively and limited Northwestern State's opportunities for the remainder of the match. Finishing with 6 shots in the second half compared to their peppering shots in the first half. 
 

The Braves held on to secure the 3-1 victory.
 

Ambrose led Alcorn with six shots, including five on goal. It marked the second time this season she has recorded six shots in a match.
 

Bailey Perales earned her second victory of the season in goal.
 

Alcorn finished with 4 saves,6 corner kicks, and 6 fouls. 
 

With the win, Alcorn improves to 2-1 against Southland Conference opponents this season.
