Three New Faces Join Athletic Administration Team

Alcorn State Athletic Director Derek Horne is pleased to announce the hiring of three new faces to guide the athletic department in a new direction.  Dorianne Johnson, John Lewis and Jason Cable have all accepted roles as Associate Athletic Directors for the Alcorn State Athletic Department.

Cleveland, MS native Dorianne Johnson has been named Associate Athletics Director and Senior Women's Administrator.  Johnson is the highest ranking female in the department. One her major focuses is to ensure the department adheres to Title IX and gender Equity.  Johnson will also oversee Sports Information, Cheer Program, Women's Soccer, Men's and Women's Track, Softball, and Men's and Women's golf programs. She will also serve as point of contact for Student Athlete services which includes serving as advisor for (SAAC) Student Athlete Advisory Committee, coordinator of student athlete orientation as well as assist with budgeting, event management, department community outreach, and other duties as assigned by Athletic Director.
 
Johnson brings over 11 years of SWAC experience after serving as assistant women's basketball coach and recruiting coordinator. She oversaw successful academic progress rates which included national ranking. In addition, she spearheaded game day special events and community engagement, team travel and lodging operations, student athlete development and leadership activities, summer camps, competition planning, development of the post play, scouting, offensive and defensive strategy and severed as a member of WBCA (Women's Basketball Coaching Association).   She also served as advisor for the AAMU Chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and member of the AAMU Homecoming planning committee.
 
Johnson entered the coaching profession after an outstanding collegiate career at the University of Mississippi that established her leadership qualities. She was a starter that helped her team to two Sweet 16 appearances and several top-15 rankings. Her leadership also extended to serving as team captain and on the Southeastern Conference as well as the NCAA Student-Athlete Advisory Committees. 
 
Johnson has also brings a wealth of  supervising and management experience obtain during her stint with  Chrysler Financial Corporation of Chicago, Illinois and as athletic director with the YMCA of Greater Kansas City.

Johnson earned a master of science with an emphasis human development from Alabama A&M and bachelor of arts with an emphasis in journalism/public relations from the University of Mississippi.

Miami, FL native John Lewis has been named Associate Athletics Director for Administration. His duties include assisting the Director of Athletics with the day-to-day management of the athletics department. He will also oversee athletics equipment, athletic training and strength and conditioning staff.
 
John served as the Assistant Athletic Director of Marketing & Promotions at St. Cloud State.  He has been an Assistant Athletic Director at SCSU for 10 years. Lewis was responsible for coordination of season, group, corporate and individual ticket sales for all sports at SCSU. He assists with fundraising events as well as other special alumni, booster clubs, community events and activities. He also helps create and implement marketing plans for all sports.  Lewis has administrative experiences in sponsorship sales, marketing and promotions, tickets, event management, day to day operations, advertising and community engagement.
 
He earned a master's degree in sports management from St. Cloud State University and bachelor's degree in sociology from the University of Minnesota. John Lewis spent four seasons as an Assistant Football Coach at Murray State University in Kentucky before joining the Huskies and was an Assistant Football Coach and Assistant Life Skills Director at SCSU from 1998 to 2000.

Lewis played football for the University of Minnesota where during the 1992 season he led the team in kickoff returns and ranked third in scoring and all-purpose yardage. He held four school records including longest reception in school history (94 yards), most yards returned in a season (715), most yards returned in a game (223), and most returns in a season (29).

Huntsville, Ala. native Jason Cable has been named associate athletic director for compliance. Cable will be responsible for providing senior level administrative support. He will also serve as the university's chief administrator for state, Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC), and NCAA Division I rules compliance.

Cable earned his bachelor's degree in political science in 2003 and his master's degree in secondary education in 2005 from Alcorn State University. He served as the associate athletic director for compliance and CHAMPS life skills coordinator at Livingstone College in Salisbury, N.C. where he oversaw all NCAA, CIAA, and institutional compliance issues and established the CHAMPS Life Skills Program on campus. Cable then moved to the Mid Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) as the assistant athletic director for compliance and game day operations at Savannah State University in Savannah, GA.

Cable returned to Mississippi as the associate athletic director for compliance at Jackson State University. At JSU, Cable oversaw athletic compliance, sports administration, game day operations, community involvement, and scheduling of contest. His impressive productivity and effectiveness in the area of athletic administration led to his promotion to senior associate athletic director/compliance oversight.

Cable is currently pursuing his Ph.D. in higher education administration at Jackson State University.
