Lady Braves Start SWAC Play Versus Texas Southern on Saturday

The Lady Braves open up the new year at the Davey L. Whitney Complex with their first SWAC test of the season against the Lady Tigers of Texas Southern this Saturday at 3 p.m.

Fast Break Facts - Alcorn State
1.  The Lady Braves are leading the SWAC in scoring defense by holding their opponents to 64.3 points per game.  The Lady Braves are also second in the SWAC in free throw percentage shooting 70% from the charity stripe.
2.  Transfer Norianna Haynes has made her presence felt in the since she hit the court in December.  Haynes is averaging 16.8 points per game,5.0 rebounds per game and is shooting 76% from the free throw line.  In the four games she's played this season she has scored in double figures in each one including a 25-point performance against the University of Louisiana.
3.  Junior college transfer Jazmin Strane posted a career-high 12 rebounds to go along with six points and five assists in the Lady Braves final non-conference game of the season at UTEP.

1.  In the past, the Lady Tigers had not recorded a winning season until the 2012-13 season.  Since that remarkable season, the Lady Tigers have posted back-to-back 20-win seasons which includes two SWAC Regular Season Titles.
2.  Texas Southern leads the SWAC in scoring averaging 62.5 points per game and has won two of their last three games.  They're also not a selfish team leading the SWAC in the asists category averaging just over 12 assists per game.
3.  Three players are averaging in double figures for the Lady Tigers led by Diamonisha Sophus (12.1 ppg).  Briana Sidney and Alexus Johnson are each averaging 11.9 ppg and 11.6 ppg, respectively.

Lady Braves vs. Texas Southern Series
The Lady Braves lead the all-time series versus the Texas Southern with a record of 53-15 since the 1982-1983 season.  Despite the success the Lady Braves has had against the Texas Southern, the Lady Tigers have owned the Lady Braves in the last five meetings.  The last time the Lady Braves defeated the Lady Tigers was in Houston, Texas on Jan. 3, 2012 (51-48).
