Softball: Lady Braves Open SWAC East Play at Alabama A&M This Weekend

Head Coach Josef Rankin and the Lady Braves softball team open SWAC East play today against Alabama A&M in Huntsville, Ala.  The Lady Braves and Alabama A&M will kick off the three-game weekend series today at 3 p.m. followed by a double-header tomorrow beginning at 1 p.m.

Lady Braves Quick Facts
Today's game against Alabama A&M marks the seventh of nine games the Lady Braves will play this week.  After tough losses at the SWAC Softball Round-Up and a double-header at Memphis, the Lady Braves have to pick up some key wins this weekend.  The Lady Braves posted an 0-4 record at the SWAC Softball Round-Up with losses coming from Southern (10-6), Grambling State (8-1), Arkansas-Pine Bluff (6-2) and Texas Southern (10-2).

Freshman Taylor Hughes is leading the Lady Braves in hitting with an average of .348, 16 hits and four triples.  

Sametria Collins is 7-for-8 in stolen bases and bats .311 on the season.

Alabama A&M Quick Facts
The Lady Bulldogs are 10-16 on the season and finished the SWAC Softball Round-Up with a 2-2 record with wins over Texas Southern and Grambling.

Sophomore Taiya McInnes leads the Lady Bulldogs in hitting averaging .429 at the plate with 24 hits and four doubles.

Freshman Ariel Smith has a team high 31 hits, four doubles, three homeruns and two triples while batting .419.
