Birmingham, Ala. - The Alcorn State University track and field programs will open the 2021 indoor season this weekend at the UAB Blazer Invitational and UAB Vulcan Invitational in Birmingham, Ala.
Second-year head coach Jimmy Joseph is optimistic about the outlook of the team in 2021.
Â
"I'm excited to see what our kids can do against other track programs," said Joseph. "I want to see the energy they'll bring to the events and the effort given while competing and cheering on their teammates!"

Senior Dekari Courtney leads the women's team over the two meets. Courtney is coming off a successful 2020 campaign where she scored in the 60-meter hurdles, pentathlon, and 4 x 400m relay. Dekari is joined by nine new Lady Braves who hope to make an impact opening weekend.
Â
On the men's side, two-time SWAC Champion Bralon Robinson anchors the young Braves squad. Robinson plans to solidify his status as a top sprinter in the SWAC when he competes in the 60 meter Dash and 200 meter Dash in Saturday's Vulcan Invitational.

Friday's Blazer Invitational features 14 teams while Saturday's Vulcan Invitational hosts 18 competing institutions, both including SWAC competitors Alabama State and Jackson State.
