Hamilton Captures Triple Jump Win to Lead Alcorn at the Blazer Invitational

Birmingham, Ala. - Freshman Qua'Neshia Tatyana Hamilton set a personal best in the triple jump to lead Alcorn at the UAB Blazer Invitational.

Hamilton leapt 11.84m to earn her first collegiate win and capped off a strong performance by the women's jumps group. Freshman De'Aisha Davis leapt 5.79m in the long jump to earn runner-up honors, while Sophomore Khiah Williams finished third place in the event with a mark 5.62m. Freshman Americus Knight and Junior Kiana Allen logged seventh place finishes in the high jump and triple jump respectively.

On the men's side, freshman Christian Franklin made his debut in record breaking fashion. Franklin finished second in the mile running 4:35.23, setting a new school record. Jeremiah Wingate and David Smith finished close behind in fifth and sixth respectively.

Head coach Jimmy Joseph was upbeat about the overall effort of the group in their first competition of the year.

"I was pleased with the way our kids performed. Everyone competed well and some achieved lifetime bests. We still have a long way to go but we are getting better everyday," Joseph said.

The Alcorn Track and Field Program returns to action tomorrow (Saturday) in the UAB Vulcan Invitational at 10 a.m. You can follow the live results for the meets by clicking here.
