Barnes Hosts Camp for Junior High & High School Squads

Cheer squads ready for upcoming camps

LORMAN, Miss. – Head Coach Kiwanis Barnes and several of her cheerleaders put together a camp for Jefferson County Junior High School, Jefferson County High School and Natchez Middle School squads from June 14 to 17 inside the Davey L. Whitney Complex.

"We reached out to local cheerleading squads, both junior and high school because we wanted to share with them the skills and techniques that we've mastered," said Barnes. "It will hopefully give them insight into what our program is all about so that we can pick up our recruiting locally for cheerleading here at Alcorn."

Each squad learned a variety of cheers, chants, dances, stunts, and pyramids which they would then perform. These skills will be useful as it will add to their repertoire of cheers that they can perform at their respective school's football and basketball games.

The groups were given assigned Alcorn cheerleaders to help assist them in their performances, hopefully being available to utilize the routines during pep rallies and sideline performances during the upcoming sports calendar.

"I'm very glad that God has given us a little bit of favor in having a season this year. I can honestly say I'm looking forward to working with the team as we have a very talented team that's been chosen this year," Coach Barnes said. Actually having a football season and getting an opportunity to interact with the fans and engage during the game."

Coach Barnes and the Alcorn cheer squad will also be hosting a private camp in Vicksburg for Vicksburg High School and the junior varsity squad from July 19 through July 21.
