Alcorn Athletics Announces Faculty Athletic Ambassadors Program

LORMAN, Miss. – Interim Athletic Director Cyrus Russ and Braves Athletics is pleased to announce the establishment of the Faculty Athletic Ambassador Program here at Alcorn State University.

Faculty involvement in college sport was part of the enterprise from its beginning, but athletics operations can be isolated from the rest of campus at many colleges and universities today. This separation often causes frayed relationships with professors, distrust, and misunderstanding.

To help prevent these issues from occurring on Alcorn's campus, the Faculty Athletic Ambassador Program is a new initiative to increase the participation and communication between faculty and student-athletes. The positions will serve one academic year and can be renewable but not last more than two consecutive years.

The ambassadors' primary roles are to positively promote athletic and academic integrity for student-athletes within their department, encourage faculty to engage in athletic activities throughout the academic year, and encourage student-athletes to participate in academic clubs and opportunities.

Thursday night, the inaugural members of the Faculty Athletic Ambassador Program were recognized during halftime of the women's basketball game versus Mississippi Valley State University. Current members will serve the remainder of the 2021-2022 school year and 2022-23.
