Robinson to Represent Alcorn at the NCAA Indoor Championship for the Second Time

LORMAN, Miss. – Bralon Robinson will represent the Alcorn State men's track and field team in the 60-meter dash at the 2022 NCAA Indoor Championships as national entries were announced earlier this week. This year's national meet will be on Friday, March 11 – Saturday, March 12 at the CrossPlex in Birmingham, Ala.

Robinson graduated from Alcorn State University in May of 2021 with a degree in Biology. When asked why he decided to remain a Brave for his final year of eligibility, he said, "I want to represent the talent that is grown and nurtured at HBCUs. There has never been a runner from an HBCU to win my event, and I want to be the first to do so."

Last year, Robinson became the first Brave to qualify for the event, breaking the Southwestern Athletic Conference Indoor Championship meet record time in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.65 to earn a trip to Fayetteville, Ark.

This season, the Canton, Miss. native accomplished his qualifying time at the conference championship meet for the second time, receiving a gold medal as he shaved .05 (6.60) for the first-place finish and All-Conference recognition.

"Whether it's the first or the second time, it's always a pleasure and honor to compete," said Robinson.

Robinson has been a force as a member of Braves track and field since joining the team as a freshman in 2017. "He's an exceptional, talented, God-loving young man who's trusted this program with his talents, said head coach Jimmy Joseph. "We love him for what he's doing for our program!"

In 2018, the graduate sprinter received the first gold medal of his career at the SWAC Indoor Championships in the 60m and competed at the NCAA East Regionals in the 100m. Last outdoor season, Robinson broke the school record in the 100m dash with a time of 10.20 at the conference championship meet, previously held by Willie McGee in 1970 to qualify for the NCAA East Regionals for the second time.

Robinson credits his success to God, his parents, his high school coach that introduced him to track, and Alcorn coaches Jimmy Joseph, Miguel Mendez, and Brittany Cox. He hopes to continue to make them proud as he competes next week.
