LORMAN, Miss. – The Alcorn State Softball team will head to Houston, Texas, to face Texas Southern in a three-game Southwestern Athletic Conference series beginning Friday afternoon and concluding with a doubleheader on Saturday at Memorial Park.

Texas Southern is 21-17 and 18-3 in league play and No. 1 in the SWAC West, just two places above the Lady Braves. This is head coach Raven Rodriguez's first season at the helm of the Tigers without the interim tag and her second series against Alcorn State. TSU swept the Lady Braves earlier this season 3-1, 5-4 (10 innings), and 6-2 in Lorman.
Tamera McKnight leads Texas Southern at the plate with a .309 batting average. The redshirt sophomore has played in 32 games with 28 starts for 81 at-bats, 11 runs, and 25 hits (five doubles and six home runs) for 25 RBI.
Jazmine Gendorf is the Tigers' ace pitcher with 22 appearances and 17 starts. She holds an 11-7 record for nine complete games with a 4.24 ERA and 104.0 innings pitched.
The Lady Braves are 16-27 and 9-9 in conference play to sit at third in the SWAC West. Head coach Josef Rankin is in his eighth season and is one win shy of his 100th career win.
Kristian Edwards is first in the nation in triples per game and leads Alcorn in hitting with a .346 batting average. The redshirt sophomore has played and started in 39 games for 127 at-bats, 26 runs, and 44 hits (three doubles, nine triples, and two home runs) for 24 RBI.
Kiri Parker leads the Lady Braves bullpen with a 6-6 record on 17 appearances and 14 starts for seven complete games. The junior has pitched 79.1 innings for 40 strikeouts.
Friday's game is set for 3 p.m., and the doubleheader on Saturday will begin at 1 p.m.
