HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Alcorn State track and field earned four event wins at the Southern Miss Invite at the Bell Track and Field Stadium on Saturday. The competition was highlighted by three top-five finishes in the women's 5000-meter run and three top-five finishes in the women's long jump.
In the 5000-meter run, Stellah Kiptui crossed the finish line first with a time of 17:25.54. Runelda Jackson followed with a time of 17:57.14 for third, and Daisy Enriques came in fifth at 18.14.70.
Khiah Williams finished first in the long jump with 5.71m. De'Aisha Davis came in fourth at 5.49m, and Kiana Allen placed fifth at 5.25m.
The women's team also achieved the other two first-place finishes. An'Twanique Kinsler received the gold medal in the Women 400 Meter Dash with a time of 55.50. She was joined by two other Braves that finished in the top-10, with Jasmine Ward landing in fourth place with a time of 56.70 and Bethany Sanders finishing ninth at 57.90.
Akili Pleas-Carnie finished first in the Women 400 Meter Hurdles with a time of 1:01.99
Braves men's team had eight top-ten finishes, seven on the track, and one in the field. The men's 4x100 Meter Relay team finished third with a time of 41.58, and Zayne Palomino finished third in the high jump with a height of 2.12m.
The Braves men's and women's track and field teams will have a two-week break before returning to competition on Saturday, April 16. Alcorn will travel to Hammond, La., to participate in the Strawberry Relays hosted by Southeastern Louisiana.
