Braves Welcome FAMU and BCU to Lorman

Alcorn set for a pair of key SWAC matchups

LORMAN, Miss. – Florida A&M and Bethune-Cookman visit Lorman, Mississippi this weekend as Alcorn Women's Basketball hosts a pair of Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) games at the Davey L. Whitney Complex. Alcorn faces FAMU on Saturday, Jan. 21, at 2 p.m., followed by Bethune-Cookman on Monday, Jan. 23, at 5:30 p.m.

SERIES VS. FLORIDA A&M
Alcorn leads the all-time series against Florida A&M by a count of 6-3. The Rattlers have won the last two contests against the Braves – both of those coming last season, while the last Purple and Gold victory in the series came by way of a 58-42 decision at home during the 2019-20 season.
 
SCOUTING FLORIDA A&M
Florida A&M comes into the game in Lorman with a 3-13 overall record, as well as holding a 1-4 mark in SWAC play. Before collecting a 69-53 win from Mississippi Valley State last Monday, the Rattlers had dropped the previous seven contests, respectfully. FAMU is 0-10 on the road this season.
 
  • As a team, the Rattlers are allowing opponents to score an average of 74.5 points per game
  • Dylan Horton is among the top scorers in the league with 17.1 points per game
  • Ahriahna Grizzle sets up the offense with 43 assists, also providing 9.2 points per game
  • Paulla Weekes leads FAMU with 6.0 rebounds per contest
 
SERIES VS. BETHUNE-COOKMAN
Alcorn trails the all-time series with Bethune-Cookman by a 2-0 count, as the first time the two schools met in women's basketball occurred last season. One game for the Braves was a forfeit in Daytona Beach, Florida, while the Purple and Gold fell in Lorman, by a 64-48 count.
 
SCOUTING BETHUNE-COOKMAN
Sporting an overall record of 5-10, Bethune-Cookman is tied for second in the DSWAC with a 4-1 league record entering the weekend against Jackson State and Alcorn, respectively. The Wildcats have won four of their last five games, including a weekend sweep at home in their last two outings against Mississippi Valley State and Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
 
  • As a team, the Wildcats are shooting 35.2 percent from the field, including a 28.9 percent clip from three-point territory
  • BCU is holding its opponents to 66.3 points per game
  • The Wildcats are led by Chanel Wilson with 17.9 points per contest, while teammate D'Shantae Edwards leads her side with an 8.9 rebounds per game average
  • Wilson also leads the Wildcats with 36 assists per game, with Edwards owning 57 steals on the year
 
LAST TIME OUT AGAINST BCU
Morgan Beacham scored 19 as Bethune-Cookman defeated Alcorn 64-48 in a Southwestern Athletic Conference game. Beacham registered 13 first-quarter points as the Wildcats won their second straight game. BCU led 17-9 after the first quarter and never trailed again. Alcorn closed to 48-44 with 9:05 remaining, but an 8-0 Wildcats run pushed the lead back to 56-44. The Braves scored just four points after that. Taylor Williams added 11 points for B-CU, followed by Tatum Hayes with nine. Kayla Clark and Tania White had 13 and 11 rebounds, respectively. Zy'Nyia White led Alcorn with 14.
