LORMAN, Miss. – Alcorn Women's Basketball is set for a big weekend as the Braves travel to Southern University and Grambling State in Louisiana. The Braves begin at Baton Rouge against the Jaguars on Saturday, Jan. 28, at 3 p.m., followed by at Grambling State on Monday, Jan. 30, at 5 p.m.

SERIES VS. SOUTHERN
Alcorn leads the all-time series against the Jaguars by a 49-36 advantage. However, the Braves have dropped the last four meetings in the series, with the last Purple and Gold win coming at the end of the 2019-20 campaign.
LAST TIME OUT AGAINST THE JAGUARS
Three Southern players scored in double figures led by senior guard Amani McWain as the Jaguars defeated the Braves 65-40 inside the Davey L. Whitney complex on the campus of Alcorn State University.
Southern forced 18 turnovers in the three quarters, giving them a 25-point lead going into the fourth quarter.
McWain led the Jaguars with 13 points and three rbeounds. Raven White added 11 points along with a game-high nine rebounds. Genovea Johnson chipped in with 10 points, three rebounds and three steals.
The Lady Jaguars defense forced the Braves to 17 turnovers, picking up 15 points off turnovers. SU played all 16 players with 14 landing in the scoring column. Southern shot a whopping 42 percent for the game (26-61) and 37 percent from behind the arc (6-16). SU shot 37 percent from the charity stripe finishing (7-19).
Za'Nyia White was the only Braves performer to finish the day in double-digits with 14 points and three boards.
SERIES VS. GRAMBLING STATE
In what is one of the closest series rivalries for the Braves, Alcorn and Grambling State stand tied at 52 wins apiece in the all-time series between the two schools. The Tigers claimed last year's only victory, while the Braves swept the 2020-21 meetings between the two sides.
LAST TIME OUT AGAINST THE TIGERS
The Grambling State University women's basketball team started slow, but used a strong second half to pull away from Alcorn, 65-41, in a Southwestern Athletic Conference game at the Davey L. Whitney Complex. Three Lady Tigers scored in double figures. Trasity Totten led the way for Grambling State with 19 points, six rebounds and one assist. Justice Coleman scored 14 points, two rebounds and two assists. Ariel Williams recorded 11 points, eight rebounds and one assist.
